The parliamentary handling of the Government's defense report began with a preliminary debate on Thursday, 16 September.
The report was presented by Minister of Defence Antti Kaikkonen (Centre Party Parliamentary Group). According to Kaikkonen, Finland is not facing an immediate military threat, despite the intensification of the international situation. However, he stated that Finland must be prepared for the use of military force against Finland or the threat thereof.
Following the preliminary debate, the matter was referred to the Defence Committee. The Foreign Affairs Committee, Finance Committee and Administration Committee will submit their statements to the Defence Committee.
