The government report on the need to reform integration (VNS 6/2021 vp, in Finnish) was in a preliminary debate on Wednesday, 15 September.
The report was presented by Minister of Employment Tuula Haatainen (Social Democratic Parliamentary Group). According to Haatainen, there are still obstacles to the participation and employment of immigrants. "Successful integration helps to overcome obstacles and opens doors to society and the labour market," Haatainen said.
The purpose of the report is to establish guidelines for promoting integration. The aim is to speed up and enhance integration, promote the participation of the immigrant population in working life and society, and prevent social polarization.
Following the preliminary debate, the matter was referred to the Administration Committee. The Audit Committee, Education and Culture Committee, Social Affairs and Health Committee and the Employment and Equality Committee will submit their statements to the Administration Committee.
